Dallas Mavericks option for two-way contract: 5. Kyle Guy
Guy was a second-round pick back in 2019 that spent his first two seasons in Sacramento where he played a total of 245 NBA minutes. The 6’1 guard could not find a consistent role and had little chance to prove himself. The 24-year-old’s two-way contract expired at the end of last season, and he is playing with the Cleveland Charge in the G League.
Guy is lighting up by averaging 21.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.0 steal in 35.0 minutes per over his first 11 contests this season. He was also a key cog in the Virginia Cavaliers winning the NCAA title in 2019.
The Mavericks have had success signing undersized guards with winning pedigrees. Kyle Guy should just be entering his prime and offers Dallas an option to handle the ball, run the offense, and space the floor. Guy has connected on 39.2 percent of his 457 G League 3-pointers over the last two seasons combined.
Kyle Guy is not a jump out of the gym athlete. He is a smart player and crafty finisher. Guy is one of the top scorers in the G League this season, and he deserves another chance in the NBA.
