How does Ben Simmons return impact Dallas Mavericks? 3. Sixers back in contention?

Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey drives a hard bargain. He is one of the league’s most active traders, but he holds firm in his beliefs in players’ value. Philadelphia did not received an offer they were willing to accept for Simmons all summer, so it is unlikely that one is coming before opening night. That leaves the three-time All-Star in a difficult predicament. Does he begin to play and practice with the Sixers like nothing happened or miss games in hopes of being traded?

It is easy to forget that the Sixers had the best record in the Eastern Conference and third-best in the NBA last season. Yes, Philadelphia faltered in the second round of the playoffs and were upset by the Atlanta Hawks, but they were an elite team during the regular season.

With Simmons back in the fold, they will again win a lot of games. The 6’11 point guard is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league and a strong facilitator. He makes the Sixers better and gives them a chance to have the best record in the conference again this year, but that is only if he is locked in and playing his best.
