Dallas Mavericks starting lineup needs an adjustment

Coach Jason Kidd acknowledged this one by replacing Dwight Powell with Willie Cauley-Stein in the final game before the break. The Mavericks starters featuring Powell have a negative-14.0 net rating over 97 minutes of action together this season. Their offensive rating sits at 97.0, which would be by far the worst in the league.

The group featuring Cauley-Stein has played just 11 minutes on the floor together so far. In that small sample, they have an outstanding offensive rating of 122.7, but their defensive rating is also 122.7 for an even net rating.

Trill is fine in a limited role, but he makes some head-scratching errors. He played 17 minutes in Tuesday’s win over the Clippers, his second-most of the year. Cauley-Stein is more of a placeholder starter as Kidd won't play him the fifth-most minutes on any night when the roster is healthy.

Coach Kidd does not want to start Kristaps Porzingis at the five because of the physical toll it takes on his body. He is also watching the minutes of Maxi Kleber closely. Expect the Dallas Mavericks to keep starting a traditional center, but they continue to play them fewer minutes as the postseason approaches.
