Dallas Mavericks potential trade deadline wish list: 2. Dillon Brooks
The Memphis Grizzlies were one of the most active teams on the trade market this summer and more moves could be on the horizon as they look to build around Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. There were rumors about Brooks and teammate Kyle Anderson both being on the block, and Memphis could pull the trigger on a deal near the deadline as contenders search for role players.
Brooks is a strong perimeter defender that always plays well against Luka Doncic. The 6’7 forward averaged 17.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 steals in 29.8 minutes per game last season as he helped Memphis reach the playoffs. He struggles to shoot efficiently, but Brooks could take a significant step forward with Doncic feeding him the ball.
The Mavs finished 21st in defensive rating last season, and they know improvements must be made on that end of the floor. Adding Dillon Brooks gives them just one more option come playoff time. The LA Clippers churned through them in the first two games before finding their footing and winning four of the next five over the Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs last season. Dallas could be just one role player from a deep playoff run of their own in 2022.
