Dallas Mavericks potential trade deadline wish list: 5. Goran Dragic
Fans heard the Dragic to Dallas rumors all summer, but it never happened. The veteran guard thought the Heat were going to decline his $19.4 million option to make him a free agent, but they picked it up and traded him to Toronto to acquire Kyle Lowry. There were rumblings of a buyout that have had zero legs so far. Dragic is in training camp and will start the season with the Raptors.
If Toronto is out of the playoff race, they will certainly be looking to move The Dragon’s expiring contract. The only way Dragic is getting bought out is if they cannot find a team willing to take on his $19.4 million salary. The Mavs are still hopeful he becomes a free agent and decides to join his friend and countryman Luka Doncic in Dallas.
A trade makes sense if the Dallas Mavericks' lack of playmaking is a glaring weakness this season. It was on full display against the LA Clippers in the playoffs, but they are one of the best perimeter defensive teams in the league. Can Jalen Brunson and Tim Hardaway Jr. take some of the ball-handling load off Luka Doncic? If not, expect the Mavs to be in the market for a playmaker before the deadline, and Dragic is a logical fit.
