Thing Dallas Mavericks need to acquire in 2022: 5. More talent

Contending in the NBA takes both star power and depth. The Warriors have Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson, plus a deep rotation of players with varied skill sets. The same can be said for the Nets, Bucks, Suns, and Jazz.

The Mavericks have too many one-dimensional players, especially on the offensive end of the floor. They need more creativity, and not just a roster full of players that need set up for shots.

Luka Doncic is an unquestioned superstar, but the rest of the Mavericks roster is overcast in their current role. Kristaps Porzingis is the perfect number three option on a championship contender. Tim Hardaway Jr. should be a fourth or fifth scoring option, and the list goes on.

The most glaring need for more talent comes at the five. Dwight Powell and Willie Cauley-Stein have both underperformed this season, and the Mavericks need to add a starting-caliber center to jump into title contention.

Improving the overall talent on the Dallas Mavericks is key, but their front office also needs to focus on filling the team’s clearly defined roster holes. Here are four areas where the roster must improve if the Mavs want to become title contenders.
