2022 NBA Draft prospect Dallas Mavericks fans should watch: 2. Bennedict Mathurin

Mathurin has helped the Arizona Wildcats to two blowout wins to begin the 2021-2022 season, and the 6’7 wing feels like one of the safest players in this class. The 19-year-old averaged 10.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in 25.0 minutes per game as a freshman, while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 41.8 percent on his 3-point tries.

Mathurin profiles as the prototypical NBA 3-and-D wing. He will defend well on the perimeter while offering versatility, switchability, and consistent shot-making. The 19-year-old has a high floor, but his lack of upside will keep him in the ten to 20 range on draft night.

It will be interesting to see what Bennedict Mathurin can do with a larger offensive role this season. Does he showcase additional playmaking ability or more skills in creating off the bounce? Can Mathurin produce something that changes scout’s minds about his ceiling? The 19-year-old is worth keeping an eye on for that reason alone.

The Wildcats wing will make an impact in the NBA, and the 2022 NBA Draft class is a bit uncertain. Will those factors be enough to push him into the lottery? It is more likely that he ends up on a team coming off a playoff berth next season, and that organization could be the Dallas Mavericks.
