2022 NBA Draft prospect Dallas Mavericks fans should watch: 3. Jaime Jaquez Jr.
Jaquez Jr. is entering his third season with the UCLA Bruins, and he has his sights set on leading them to an NCAA championship after they were knocked out in the Final Four by Gonzaga last season. The 20-year-old profiled as a strong 3-and-D wing after last year, but he looks to have taken a step forward in his junior season.
Jaquez Jr. led UCLA over Villanova on Nov. 12 by producing 21 points on seven of 14 shooting from the field, including hitting five 3-pointers. The 6’6 wing also had 13 rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 37 minutes of action. His playmaking and shooting appear to be improved, which makes Jaquez Jr. even more of a weapon.
The Bruins wing is ready to contribute to an NBA team right now, but he is unlikely to vault up draft boards because of his age and athletic ability. Jaquez Jr. is not a jump out of the gym athlete, but he competes hard on both ends of the floor and impacts winning.
The Dallas Mavericks would love to add a strong 3-and-D wing with improving playmaking ability that knows how to win games. Jaime Jaquez Jr. should be available in the late first round of the 2022 NBA Draft, and he would be an outstanding fit in Dallas.
