2022 NBA Draft prospect Dallas Mavericks fans should watch: 4. Trevor Keels
Keels was the breakout player in Duke’s win over Kentucky to open the 2021-2022 season. The 18-year-old guard had 25 points on ten of 18 shooting from the field and three steals as he played lockdown defense of projected lottery selection TyTy Washington.
Keels only had ten points against Army in the Blue Devil’s second game, but he took 14 shots and produced six steals. He had just six points on nine field goals in their win over Campbell. His jump shooting is something to watch this season. If Keels can prove he can knock them down at a league-average rate, he could be taken in the lottery come June.
He already has an NBA-ready body and has showcased the ability to attack the rim. Teams were excited about his defense, physicality, motor, and ability to operate out of the pick and roll during his first college game, according to ESPN (subscription required).
Keels is a player to watch because his unique body type could see him slip in the draft. He is listed at 6’4 and 221 pounds, but the teenager has a stout frame that is not common among point guards.
The Dallas Mavericks could get a steal in the late first round because early returns suggest that Trevor Keels has an NBA-ready game. They would love to add his defense, playmaking, and toughness to their roster.
