Thing Dallas Mavericks fans should be thankful for: 2. 21 years of Dirk
Mavericks fans are always thankful for Dirk Nowitzki because he changed the game and the franchise. Dallas was the laughing stock of the NBA in the 1990s. They missed the playoffs for a decade straight and topped just 30 wins once during that stretch. Then, Dirk came along and made them an annual playoff team and brought the Mavericks a championship.
Nowitzki’s on-court game was legendary, but it was his loyalty that took him to another level. He would take annual pay cuts to improve the roster around him. He wanted the Mavericks to win, and he did everything in his power to make that a reality.
Dirk’s signature one-legged fadeaway can be seen on a nightly basis in the NBA in 2021. Players from across the league are sinking it and paying tribute to the Tall Baller from the G.
Nowitzki is back with the Dallas Mavericks as a special advisor to owner Mark Cuban, and the owner dropped the news that he will have an office at the team’s new practice facility. Could that mean a larger role with the organization moving forward? Stay tuned to find out, and do not miss his jersey retirement on Jan. 5.
