Thing Dallas Mavericks fans should be thankful for: 5. J-Kidd and Nico
The Mavs made leadership changes in the 2021 offseason as both general manager Donnie Nelson and head coach Rick Carlisle left after more than three decades of combined service with the team. Owner Mark Cuban had to hire a new head coach for the first time since 2008, and the first lead executive in his tenure as Mavs owner.
He brought back Dirk Nowitzki as a special advisor to help him with the search before landing on former Nike executive Nico Harrison as general manager and president of basketball operations and Hall of Fame point guard Jason Kidd to be the team’s head coach.
The Mavericks needed a new voice in the locker room. Coach Kidd has helped Luka Doncic share the ball more as he has empowered Kristaps Porzingis to transform back into the Unicorn. It has been an uneven start, but Dallas will be more versatile come playoff time under Kidd.
The front office failed to shake up the roster significantly since trading for KP back in 2019. Harrison is just getting his leg under him as GM, but expect him to find the pieces that make a title contender.
Dallas Mavericks fans should be thankful for the team’s new leadership as both Jason Kidd and Nico Harrison are ready to help the Dallas Mavericks take the next step.
