Dallas Mavericks that impressed in loss to Suns: 1. Kristaps Porzingis
Tim Hardaway Jr. led the Mavs with 22 points and Jalen Brunson narrowly missed a triple-double, but KP did the most surprising thing of the three players that needed to step up without Luka Doncic as he dished out a career-high seven dimes against the Suns.
Porzingis finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and two blocks on Wednesday night. He shot seven of 20 from the field, but the Mavericks outscored the Suns by nine points during his 32 minutes on the floor. KP and Trey Burke were the only two Mavs that finished with a positive plus/minus.
The Unicorn has been impressive since returning from his back injury on Nov. 6. It was the fifth time in the last six games that he scored more than 20 points, and the chemistry between the Mavs star duo looked to be at an all-time high before Doncic’s injury.
New head coach Jason Kidd has given Kristaps Porzingis more freedom in the offense, and the 7’3 big man responded by dishing out a career-high in assists. KP provides a ton of floor space for the Dallas Mavericks, so improving his passing ability will only make the team more dangerous.
The Mavs face the Suns again on Friday night. Fans should stay tuned for updates on Luka Doncic, but the team proved tonight that they can compete in Phoenix. Keep it locked to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
