The Dallas Mavericks dominated the Portland Trail Blazers from the opening tipoff on Friday night as superstar Luka Doncic led the way with an incredible 39-point masterpiece in just three quarters. They secured homecourt in the first round and are still chasing the Golden State Warriors for third in the Western Conference. There was just one blemish in the destruction of the shorthanded Blazers.

Luka went up for a shot at the end of the first quarter, and there was clear contact from Blazers wing Elijah Hughes, but no foul was called. The 23-year-old superstar was upset and plead his case with the referees, which resulted in a technical foul being called. It was Luka’s 16th technical of the season, which results in a one-game suspension from the NBA.

Doncic was saved by the league office on April 9 as they rescinded the technical foul, which makes him eligible to play against the San Antonio Spurs in the Mavericks’ regular-season finale. The Mavs will have a week off before the first round of the playoffs begin, so expect Doncic to suit up and put on a show.

The Mavs can still move into third in the Western Conference if the Warriors lose one of their final two games. They have a back-to-back set starting on Saturday night in San Antonio against the Spurs before traveling to New Orleans to face the Pelicans. The Dubs will be favored in both contests, but the Mavericks do not plan on resting their superstar with the chance a victory could push them to third.

Expect Luka to go off against the Spurs in the regular-season finale. Over his last seven games, the 23-year-old is averaging 33.4 points, 10.3 assists, and 9.3 rebounds per game on 49.4 percent shooting from the field and 39.7 percent on his threes. The hot shooting will continue as the Mavericks look to close out the regular season on a four-game winning streak.

Fans will not want to miss Sunday’s contest between the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs. It will be the Mavs final tune-up before the playoffs, and they are celebrating their fans at the American Airlines Center, so head to the game if you can and enjoy.
