Ranking mismatches for Luka Doncic and Mavericks to hunt vs. Warriors: 3. Klay Thompson
Thompson was an elite defender when the Warriors won their most recent championship in 2018, but after missing two seasons recovering from ACL and Achilles surgeries, Klay has not looked the same. The 32-year-old is a step slower but still stands 6’6 and weighs 215 pounds.
The Mavs want to get Thompson defending Luka to try to wear him down. The five-time All-Star will struggle to stay in front of Doncic, but he has the size, skill, and veteran savvy to hold his own in this matchup. Dallas just does not want Thompson fresh in the fourth quarter to nail clutch shots.
Ranking mismatches for Luka Doncic and Mavericks to hunt vs. Warriors: 2. Jordan Poole
The Warriors' sixth man has had a breakout third NBA season that has carried over into the playoffs. He is averaging 19.3 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.4 rebounds on 50.0 percent shooting from the field and 39.1 percent on his threes. Poole has been a key piece for Golden State, but he struggles defending on the perimeter.
Luka Doncic will feast on the 6’4 wing in this series as he looks to limit his offensive production. The Warriors want to go small with Poole playing over a traditional center like Kevon Looney, but it will be difficult to stick with if Doncic is scoring at will on Poole or the number one player on this list.
