Ranking mismatches for Luka Doncic and Mavericks to hunt vs. Warriors: 7. Kevon Looney
How much Looney plays in this series could directly correspond with how he performs on switches against Doncic. Remember, Luka virtually played Ivica Zubac off the floor in the Mavs' first-round playoff series against the LA Clippers last year. Can he do the same to Looney in this series?
The Warriors center does a better job moving his feet and staying in front of guards than Zubac, but he is a worse defender than Deandre Ayton, who Doncic just took to school in the last round. If head coach Jason Kidd and the Mavericks want the Warriors to go small, they will attack Looney on the defensive end until head coach Steve Kerr is forced to pull the big man.
Ranking mismatches for Luka Doncic and Mavericks to hunt vs. Warriors: 6. Nemanja Bjelica
Bjelica has the size and strength to avoid being posted up repeatedly by Doncic, but he wants no part of the Mavericks guard on the perimeter. Luka will draw his patented step-back 3-pointer or just drive past Bjelica at will if this matchup occurs in this series. The Warriors cannot afford to have him on Doncic if they want to make their sixth trip to the NBA Finals in eight years.
