Ranking mismatches for Luka Doncic and Mavericks to hunt vs. Warriors: 10. Andrew Wiggins
Golden State’s preferred matchup on Doncic during the regular season was Wiggins, and the 6’7 wing will likely get the first crack at defending him in this series. It has not gone well so far for the Warriors as Luka has made six of his eight field-goal attempts, and the Mavericks have scored 50 points in the 9:19 that Wiggins has been on Doncic.
Golden State needs to be careful sending help because Luka is one of the best creators in the league. If they plan on using Wiggins and trapping to get the ball out of Doncic's hands, the result will likely be a parade of open shots or easy lobs for the Mavericks.
Andrew Wiggins has the size and strength to have a chance against Luka Doncic. He will start Game 1 on the 23-year-old superstar, but Wiggins must perform better than he did in the regular season. Doncic will get his in this matchup, but the Warriors forward presents a challenge.
It will be interesting to see how willing Golden State will be to switch in this series. The Suns and Jazz both let Luka select his matchup, and the 23-year-old superstar roasted both teams. Do the Warriors fight harder over screens and try to stay with their preferred matchup on Doncic or just let him dictate? It will be a fascinating subplot to watch throughout this series.
