Ranking mismatches for Luka Doncic and Mavericks to hunt vs. Warriors: 11. Draymond Green
If there is any player in the league that can slow down Luka one-on-one, it is likely Green. The four-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year has the size and strength to battle Doncic in the post, and the foot speed to stay in front of the Mavs superstar if he decides to go one-on-one on the perimeter.
Green is listed at 6’6 and 230 pounds, which is one inch shorter and the same weight as Luka.
Doncic praised Draymond and his impact on the Warriors in Tuesday’s press conference ahead of Game 1. See his quote below courtesy of ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
The Mavericks won three of the four regular-season meetings against Golden State this season, but Green only played in one of those meetings. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr did not use Draymond as the preferred matchup on Luka, but that could change in this series, especially if the Mavs superstar is going off.
Draymond Green has the best chance, but even he cannot guard Luka Doncic one-on-one. Ask Mikal Bridges. The runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 had no answers in defending number 77 in the Western Conference semifinals. Good luck to Green and the Dubs on figuring out a way to slow him down.
