The Dallas Mavericks have won six straight games behind an incredible run by Luka Doncic. The 23-year-old superstar has three 50-point games during that stretch, including a never before accomplished 60-point 20-rebound triple-double against the Knicks. Dallas has been shorthanded, but that has not stopped them from winning games. Luka’s hot play is a driving factor, but the coaching staff was also forced to make a switch during this run.
Christian Wood jumped into the starting five after injuries to Maxi Kleber and Josh Green. Dallas needed his scoring punch and ability to knock down shots. With Luka in the lineup, the Mavs are 6-1 during that stretch, and Wood is averaging 18.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game over the small sample.
The chemistry and on-court connection between Doncic and Wood is growing. Fans can see them getting more comfortable on the floor, and it is showing in the results. Here is a look at Luka’s recent comments about his teammates before diving into their recent play and what it could mean for Wood in his extension talks with the Mavericks.
Luka Doncic enjoys playing with Christian Wood: Does that matter in extension talks?
Doncic was asked about his relationship with Wood in his media availability after the Dec. 31 win over the Spurs, and the 23-year-old superstar responded with this.
"I mean it’s great. He doesn’t get mad if sometimes I yell at him, and that is what I appreciate because, in the game, I’m a lot. Sometimes, it is hard to be with me on the court. I just want to win, but he appreciates that. He never gets mad. He listens to me, and I listen to him, so it is working great."
Luka went on to talk about how their sense of humor differs, but fear not MFFLs, Doncic is helping Wood improve his. All jokes aside, the duo enjoys playing together, and the early results have been strong. Does that matter as C-Wood enters extension talks with the Mavs?
