How long will Kyrie Irving stay with the Dallas Mavericks?
The Kyrie watch will begin the moment the Mavs season ends. Keeping him through the summer will be difficult. Irving could easily head to Phoenix or Los Angeles in July. Both the Clippers and Lakers will be interested along with the Suns, and all three destinations offer Kyrie the chance to compete alongside multiple superstars for the shot at a ring.
If the Mavericks survive Kyrie’s free agency, he will stay in Dallas for at least two additional seasons. How things play out and the relationship between Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Mavs front office will determine if he stays beyond that. There is a shot they make it work for five or six seasons, but it is not the most likely outcome given Irving’s willingness to depart when questions arise about his current situation.
The Dallas Mavericks' odds of retaining Kyrie Irving in free agency are about 50-50 as of this writing. Irving talked about his current situation and the belief the team and its front office has shown in him. He wants to be valued, and the Mavs will do just that. Is that enough to make it work for multiple years? If nothing else, it is a start.
