Kyrie Irving will want to leave the Dallas Mavericks at some point but when?

Irving has a clear track record of wanting out of his current situation as things begin to sour. He knew LeBron was leaving the Cavaliers, so he asked out first. Kyrie preferred teaming up with Kevin Durant in Brooklyn over staying in Boston long-term. He wanted out of Brooklyn after they did not offer him a max contract. The 30-year-old knew Kevin Durant's intentions, and he left the Nets. Irving will want out of Dallas at some point too.

The bigger question should be will he force Luka Doncic out? Kyrie and LeBron both left Cleveland. Irving and Durant both left Brooklyn. Will Luka and Kyrie be the next duo that departs a franchise in a short window? Irving won a championship in 2016, and he has played in three NBA Finals. The 30-year-old knows how to win, but it is not always smooth sailing with him on the roster.

Boston is Kyrie’s shortest stay so far. He only lasted two seasons with the Celtics. He was in Cleveland for six years, and Brooklyn for three-plus. This is the first time he was traded mid-season. Irving has young children, and he could look to settle down in Dallas long-term. How long that term is will be the question on everyone’s mind, even if he re-signs with the Mavericks this summer.
