Kristaps Porzingis needs to be the Dallas Mavericks second star if they want to make a run
Porzingis is the Mavericks' most important player because he raises their ceiling. Luka Doncic is the team’s engine and unquestioned best player. He is going to perform in the postseason, but if the Mavs want to make it out of the first round for the first time since winning the title in 2011, KP needs to be the team’s second star.
The Unicorn has the talent. He needs to consistently knock down jumpers, make plays out of the post, and protect the rim for Dallas to reach its potential. Fans saw glimpses of his unique skill set on Christmas day against one of the best teams in the league. Porzingis needs to make it happen on the biggest stages for the Mavericks to achieve their goals.
Health is always an important talking point when discussing KP. He has missed nine of the team’s first 32 games this season. The Mavs need him healthy and playing his best basketball in the playoffs, and they should do everything they can to make that a reality.
The Dallas Mavericks have not played their best basketball this season. They are hoping to get on the other side of their recent COVID outbreak and find their footing.
The chemistry between Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis has improved and their play will too. Stay tuned to see if the Mavs can escape the first round of the playoffs this year. If they do, KP will play a massive role in their success.
