Dallas Mavericks updated center depth chart with Kyrie Irving

The Mavs desperately need an upgrade here before Thursday’s deadline. Dwight Powell is likely to remain the starter, but the team has little trust in the other options at this position.

Starter: Dwight Powell

Powell will be limited to ten to 15 minutes per game in the playoffs, so there is plenty of playing time available at this spot. Dallas will go small some, but that strategy will be less effective unless they find a Dorian Finney-Smith replacement before Thursday’s deadline.

Backup: Markieff Morris

Morris is likely ahead of McGee in the team’s pecking order because Theo Pinson was in Saturday’s game against the Warriors. The 33-year-old big man was in and out of the Nets rotation this season, but he was part of the Lakers title team in 2020 that featured Jason Kidd. as an assistant coach.

Third-string: JaVale McGee

McGee has been a disaster signing for the Mavericks, and there is no way he cracks the postseason rotation at this point. The seven-footer just makes too many mistakes, and head coach Jason Kidd trusts other players more.
