Dallas Mavericks updated power forward depth chart with Kyrie Irving

Will Christian Wood be in Dallas beyond Thursday’s deadline? The 6’10 big man is on an expiring contract, and extension talks have not materialized. Dallas has a massive decision to make, but he will likely be a starter when he returns from injury.

Starter: Christian Wood

Doncic, Irving, and Wood could form the most dynamic offensive trio in the NBA. Yes, the defense could be porous, but outscoring Dallas would not be easy. C-Wood has proven the offense is elite with Luka on the floor, and he won’t miss a beat with Irving.

Backup: Maxi Kleber

The Mavericks desperately need Kleber back and healthy for the postseason if they are going to make a deep run. He has missed 27 consecutive games after tearing his hamstring, but the 6’10 big man was reportedly cleared for contact already. Expect him to return around the All-Star break.

Kleber will play the majority of the team’s minutes at the five in the postseason if he is healthy. Head coach Jason Kidd found success going small and spacing the floor last year, and the Hall of Famer will go back to it.

Third-string: Davis Bertans

Bertans can knock down shots, and the Mavericks continue to value that skill set. Expect him to play more than anyone expects in the playoffs because of his shooting.
