Dallas Mavericks updated shooting guard depth chart with Kyrie Irving

Irving is the no questioned starter here with Josh Green as the backup. Those two will share the court in the second unit, and it will be interesting to see how Green develops with a few more minutes likely headed his way after this trade.

Starter: Kyrie Irving

Head coach Jason Kidd has some work to do to maximize the Doncic and Irving partnership. The Mavericks do not want to turn into a your turn, my turn offense, and the Hall of Fame point guard will be in charge of finding ways for the two to get each other open before the postseason.

Backup: Josh Green

The 22-year-old keeps improving, and the Mavericks were thankful that they did not have to give him up in the Kyrie trade. Expect Green to get more chances, and his play will be something to watch closely down the stretch and into the postseason.

Third-string: Jaden Hardy

Hardy should get some time in the G League down the stretch because he will be limited to mop-up and injury-replacement duties in Dallas. There is plenty of talent, but the 20-year-old is not ready to contribute to a title contender.

Bench depth: Frank Ntilikina

Ntilikina will be used as a situational option when the Mavericks need defense on the floor, which could come in handy for spot minutes in the postseason.
