Dallas Mavericks trade to shake up roster: 3. Land LaVine

The Mavs want a second star, and LaVine could be one of the best names available. Yes, there are injury concerns, and the 27-year-old has played in the postseason just once in his first eight NBA seasons, but not many players average over 23 points per game on that efficiency. LaVine is one of the best scorers in the league, and Luka Doncic is arguably the best offensive creator. They would be a scare duo that could put up 60 every night.

Do the Bulls trade LaVine before Thursday’s deadline? Chicago does not appear to have chosen a direction yet, but here is a trade that would benefit both sides.

The Bulls get three quality rotation players as they look to stay competitive with DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic, plus two first-round picks to restock their cupboard. Chicago loses LaVine’s scoring, but they now have a bit more shooting, defense, and depth to go along with two future firsts.

Adding in Coby White gives the Mavericks a chance to see what he can do. Maybe he never plays in Dallas, but the 22-year-old was the seventh overall pick in 2019. White has talent. Can the Mavericks unlock it? They need ball handlers and shot creators, so taking a chance on a young former lottery pick with upside makes sense.

Is Zach LaVine the second star that the Mavs should go in on? That is what the front office has to decide between now and Thursday’s trade deadline. If the answer is yes, expect Dallas to make a strong offer to the Bulls.
