Player Dallas Mavericks could still trade for this offseason: 5. Goran Dragic
The Mavs have been linked to Dragic since they were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by the LA Clippers. Their need for another ball-handler and creator was on full display in that series. Dragic and Luka Doncic are both from Slovenia and helped their country win EuroBasket 2017. The veteran has talked about how much he would love to play with the Mavericks superstar again.
The Heat picked up Dragic’s team option and dealt him to the Raptors in the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade. Many expected the Mavs to step up acquire him, but they are in wait-and-see mode. Dragic's $19.4 million salary for this season makes it difficult when matching money. Dallas believes the 35-year-old will eventually be bought out, and they are favorites to acquire him if that happens.
The Raptors have zero reasons to buy him out. The veteran guard can help their young roster win games. Toronto lost Kyle Lowry, but they still have Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet. They plan on making the playoffs this season, and Dragic helps them achieve that goal.
The Dallas Mavericks are going to have to step up and trade for Goran Dragic if they want to acquire him before the start of the regular season. They could pull that off in several deals, but they are unlikely to make it a reality before training camp starts on Sept. 28.
