Dallas Mavericks need to make the playoffs to keep Kyrie Irving in free agency

Ultimately, superstar players want to win. It is why they team up in the first place, so Dallas needs to right the ship and qualify for the playoffs. The Mavs are just 4-5 since the trade and have won just one of the five games with both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on the floor.

The skid has sunk Dallas to seventh in the Western Conference, and they are in danger of dropping further. The Mavericks are just two games up on the Lakers for 11th. Teams seven through ten in both conferences have to go through the play-in tournament to qualify for the playoffs.

The Mavs are just two games behind fourth with 19 contests remaining in the regular season. The standings being so tightly packed means teams could finish literally anywhere. That is concerning for the Mavericks because they have a ton to figure out and fast if they want to make the postseason.

Kyrie Irving’s team has not missed the playoffs since 2014, and Dallas has qualified for three consecutive seasons. There is a ton riding on these final 19 games, and the Mavericks need to win.

Kyrie is a superstar, which means he will want some say in what goes on with the team.
