Thing Dallas Mavericks must do to win Game 3 over Warriors: 3. Take care of the ball

Limiting turnovers has been a focus for the Mavericks all season. They averaged just 12.5 per game during the regular season, which was the third-fewest in the NBA. Dallas has dropped that number to 10.6 a night in the playoffs, which is by far the fewest among the four remaining teams.

The Mavs had 13 turnovers in the opener against the Warriors and 12 in Game 2. Golden State wants to push the ball up the floor and play in transition, so live-ball turnovers are especially painful against the Dubs. Dallas must take care of the ball if they want to be victorious in Game 3.

Luka Doncic uncharacteristically had seven turnovers in Game 1 before bouncing back on Friday night. It was Spencer Dinwiddie’s four off the bench that hurt Dallas combined with a mistake or two from every starter in Game 2. The Mavs need to tighten things up as the series shifts back to Dallas.

They would love to keep their turnovers under eight in Game 3. The Mavericks are going to have to score to win, and limiting easy buckets in transition for the Warriors will go a long way in helping Dallas secure the victory.
