The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 117-112 on Saturday night behind a 40-point triple-double from superstar Luka Doncic. It was a monster night from the 23-year-old superstar after two straight disappointing losses, and he got plenty of help against the Blazers.
It was an up-and-down game for the Mavericks, but it was fantastic to see them close out a clutch win over one of the best closers in the NBA. Dallas dominated Dame Time to pick up the win, including nailing three clutch 3-pointers after a rough shooting night from long range overall.
What can Mavs fans take away from the victory on Saturday night? Here are three encouraging things from the victory.
Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks win over Trail Blazers: 3. Wood shines in return
The Mavs missed Wood’s scoring off the bench in the last two games as he sat with a knee injury. The 6’10 big man was back in the lineup on Saturday night, and the only thing that slowed him down was foul trouble.
Wood showed zero effects of the injury as he rose up a slammed home multiple lobs on Nov. 12. See him catching one Luka Doncic below.
Wood finished with 19 points on seven of 11 shooting from the field, but he fouled out after 25 minutes of action. The Mavericks did not have him on the floor for the final 4:20 on Saturday night after he picked up his sixth foul. Dallas outscored the Blazers by 15 in Wood’s 25 minutes, and he chipped in five rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Christian Wood is a key scorer and rebounder for the Dallas Mavericks, and he needs to defend without fouling. C-Wood likely would have closed the game on Saturday night, but he fouled out. It was great to have him back, and Wood will continue to be a key to the team’s success moving forward.
