Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks Game 6 playoff win over Suns: 3. Defense
The defense has carried the Mavericks in the playoffs. They held Phoenix to just 97.5 points per game in their first two victories in Dallas, and the Suns only managed 86 points in Game 6.
It was a beautiful game plan from head coach Jason Kidd and his staff on May 12. They limited the Suns to just 18 3-point attempts, and they made life difficult on Devin Booker and Chris Paul.
Booker had 19 points on six of 17 shooting, but committed eight turnovers and missed all four of his 3-pointers. CP3 had 13 points with four assists and five turnovers. Limiting the Suns' star duo to 32 points with 13 turnovers was massive in throwing Phoenix out of their rhythm.
Dallas forced Phoenix to commit 22 turnovers in Game 6, and they made them pay with 29 points off of them. The Mavericks came out aggressive on their home floor and dominated from the opening moments in a statement victory.
They need their defense to carry over to Game 7. The Mavericks have allowed 120 points per game in their three losses in Phoenix during this series. It was the fourth straight quiet game from Chris Paul, and Dallas needs to keep Devin Booker in check as they look to advance on Sunday night.
