Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks first 5 games: 3. Team chemistry
Fans found out about the Mavs leadership council when coach Jason Kidd gave them credit for the idea of playing all 15 players in the team’s home opener against the Rockets. It was an outside-the-box idea that did not backfire on them.
The Mavericks are focused on their chemistry this season. Luka Doncic talked about the team improving it during the press conference announcing his contract extension this summer in Slovenia, and coach Kidd was brought in to improve it. So far, so good for the Mavs. Their leadership council is just one of the many ways that every player is feeling the positive vibes.
Kidd has been more laid back than former coach Rick Carlisle. He brought his dog practice in the buildup to the season and allowed Luka to do the same. The 48-year-old Hall of Fame is taking input from his players, and allowing them more freedom on the court.
The Mavericks have won all three games against lesser opponents this season, which is something that didn’t always happen under Carlisle. Coach Kidd has them feeling good, and it will be interesting to see if their chemistry stays high and what impact that has moving forward.
