The Dallas Mavericks begin the 2022-2023 regular season on Oct. 19 with a playoff rematch against the Phoenix Suns. Luka Doncic and company are returning to the scene of the crime, where they dominated Game 7 and eliminated the top-seeded Suns, in what will be a cannot miss matchup.

The Mavs lost Jalen Brunson this offseason, but they improved their frontcourt with the additions of Christian Wood and JaVale McGee. Is Dallas better? Can they build on last season’s run to the conference finals? Time will tell.

One thing is for certain, the Mavericks are going to be a fun and exciting team. Luka made his goal of winning a championship clear, but what should fans be watching this season? Here are the five biggest storylines to follow.

Dallas Mavericks storyline to watch in 2022-23 season: 5. What Dinwiddie shows up?

The Mavs bought low on Dinwiddie at last season’s trade deadline after he struggled mightily in his 44 games with the Wizards. Dallas needed another ball-handler, and they thought they could get the most out of the 6’5 guard by playing him next to Luka Doncic.

Dinwiddie was lights out in Dallas, including averaging 14.2 points and shooting over 41 percent from 3-point range in the postseason.

The 29-year-old will have to take on a larger role this season after Brunson’s departure, but what Dinwiddie will the Mavericks get? It is easy to forget that he averaged over 20 points per game as he led the Nets to the playoffs in 2020. Do they get Brooklyn Dinwiddie or the Washington version?

Spencer Dinwiddie will start and run the team’s second unit this season, and his play is something to watch closely.
