The Dallas Mavericks' 2023 NBA Draft was full of surprises, as they made multiple trades and ended up with three rookies.

The first trade came with the Oklahoma City Thunder as Dallas traded the No. 10 pick and Davis Bertans for the No. 12 pick and a traded player exception.

They used the No. 12 pick to draft Dereck Lively II and later used the traded player exception in a different trade.

Rumors: Mavericks to waive former collegiate star guard

Dallas sent the Sacramento Kings the traded player exception in exchange for the No. 24 pick (Olivier-Maxence Prosper) and Richaun Holmes. This gave the Mavs some frontcourt depth with Holmes, but this deal was centered around Dallas landing Prosper.

The Mavericks' third move came after the draft as they signed former TCU guard Mike Miles Jr.

Miles Jr. was a Dallas native, and this move excited fans as he was one of the best undrafted players. While at TCU, Miles Jr. averaged 15.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He played three years at TCU, and he seemed excited to get back home to Dallas.

Miles Jr. said that he had multiple two-way offers coming out of the draft, but Dallas was the place that made the most sense for him. He didn't have to move, and it was a great spot for him to "stay focused."

After just about a week of preseason basketball, it is rumored that the Mavs will waive Miles Jr., according to a report by Josh Mazur of 214 The Win.

This is an unexpected move, as Miles Jr. was signed quickly after the draft, and Dallas still had an open two-way spot. Miles Jr. didn't play in any of Dallas' three preseason games so far though.

It is unknown at this time why Dallas is waiving Miles Jr.
