The trade rumors have been flowing throughout the NBA world over the last few days, and there has been plenty of new intel to dive into for almost every team in the NBA.

Pascal Siakam getting traded to the Indiana Pacers was the first big move of the season, but many smaller moves could be on the way as well.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Dallas Mavericks have shown interest in Andrew Wiggins and P.J. Washington, further confirming the report that Dallas is looking to upgrade at the small forward and power forward spots.

Rumors: Dallas Mavericks interested in trade for defensive-minded Knicks guard

Mavericks fans were blessed with more trade intel on Thursday morning, as Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reported that the Mavs have "expressed interest" in New York Knicks guard Quentin Grimes, (subscription required).

This season for the Knicks, Grimes is averaging 7.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 40.0 percent from the field and 39.0 percent from downtown. This has been the best shooting season of Grimes' career, and it seems likely that he will get moved by the deadline.

If the Mavericks were to trade for Grimes, they would be gaining a defensive-minded two-guard who can knock down shots from downtown and attack the rim when needed. His defense is similar to that of Josh Green, and he could be used similarly.

Grimes' defense is special because of his solid 6-foot-5 frame for the shooting guard position, his ability to play smart help defense, his aggressiveness and quickness, and his versatility. He is someone who would step in and be one of the best guard defenders on the team, and he uses his 6-foot-8 wingspan to disrupt passing lanes.

He would also provide consistent 3-point shooting, but do the Mavs really need another Josh Green-type of player?

Dallas already has plenty of guards, but adding another guard who can multiple positions and is young may not be a bad idea. Grimes has this season, and one more season on his contract before becoming a restricted free agent in the summer of 2025, so adding him to Dallas' young core may be a move that Nico Harrison considers.

This move would not surprise me if the Mavs can buy low, but the Knicks' potential asking price for him has not been reported.

For all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks and their potential pursuit of a trade for New York Knicks guard Quentin Grimes, stay tuned.
