The Dallas Mavericks are looking to make a splash before the 2023 trade deadline on Feb. 9. They need more talent around superstar Luka Doncic, and the Mavs would love to plug some holes and improve their chances of making a deep playoff run in the crowded Western Conference.

Dallas could be anywhere from third to 13th in one week if things break right or wrong. Five games separate those two places in the standings with Dallas smack in the middle. They are fighting to avoid the play-in tournament and have homecourt in the first round of the playoffs. Luka Doncic has produced like the MVP, but the rest of the roster has not given him enough support this season.

What will the Mavericks do before Feb. 9? Do they pull off a blockbuster or just add a few pieces to cover their needs? Standing pat is an option, but not one general manager Nico Harrison prefers, so here are five predictions for what the Dallas Mavericks will do before the 2023 trade deadline.

Dallas Mavericks 2023 trade deadline bold prediction: 5. Add playmaker but not a star

The Mavs needed another playmaker the moment Jalen Brunson signed with the Knicks in free agency. Dallas tried multiple low-cost options, but nobody was able to hold down the role. They need a third creator. Ideally, it would be a player that slots in between Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie.

The Mavericks add a third playmaker before Feb. 9, but he is far from a star player. Dallas grabs a veteran that can handle the ball, get a few buckets, and run an offense. It is unlikely they swing something for a marquee name, but their new additon plays his best basketball with the Mavs. Working off Luka Doncic can have that effect.

The Dallas Mavericks fill a hole with a solid veteran that gives them a solid 20 to 30 minutes per game, but he is not garnering All-Star consideration any time soon.
