Could the Dallas Mavericks acquire Kyle Kuzma?
The Mavs certainly could trade for Kyle Kuzma if he becomes available. The Wizards would likely be asking for a first-round pick, and Dallas has two available to offer, plus they could conditionally move their 2025 first. Does Kuzma move the needle enough to make that deal worth worthwhile?
Where do the Mavericks play him? They just traded for Christian Wood and signed JaVale McGee to play in the frontcourt. Dallas also has Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, and Davis Bertans vying for minutes. Powell and Bertans are likely outside the nightly rotation. Even at the three, the Mavs will play Doe-Doe, Tim Hardaway Jr., Reggie Bullock, and Josh Green. Squeezing in Kuzma would create headaches for coach Kidd, and nobody would be happy with their playing time.
Trading for Kyle Kuzma just does not make sense for the Dallas Mavericks. Does the 6’9 forward help them advance further in the playoffs? Kuzma won a championship with the Lakers in 2020, but he played just 23.0 minutes per game in the postseason. Dallas wants to win their second title, and Kuzma just doesn’t move the needle enough to warrant parting with a first-round draft choice.
Will Nico Harrison and the Dallas Mavericks find a trade that does suit them this season? It is one of the many storylines to follow during the 2022-23 season. Fans won’t want to miss a second of the action as Luka Doncic makes his MVP push, so please tune in and enjoy the games.
