Why Rudy Gobert is the perfect fit for Dallas Mavericks: 1. Luka’s pick and roll partner
Dwight Powell is one of the league’s best pick and roll partners for Luka Doncic, and he is scoring an incredible 1.44 points per possession off the play this season. Now, imagine playing Powell 18 to 20 minutes off the bench with Rudy Gobert taking over as the starter.
Gobert runs the 12th most possession per game in the league as a roll man at 3.5, and he scores a hyper-efficient 1.30 points per possession off the play. The Stifle Tower leads the NBA with 6.3 screen assists and 15.5 points generated by screen assists per game.
Adding one of the best screeners in the league to the Mavericks and letting him play with the best pick and roll ball-handler in Luka Doncic is just not fair. Assuming they can get on the same page, Doncic and Gobert could be a special pick-and-roll combination that wreaks havoc on defenses. Add in the Mavs floor spacing, and there would no way to slow down their offense.
Rudy Gobert would be the perfect fit for the Dallas Mavericks because he would improve the team on both ends of the floor. Yes, the 7’1 big man is not going to shoot jumpers, but his ability to rebound, protect the rim, and set screens would add new dimensions to an already dangerous Mavs squad.
