Return or Burn: Which free agents should the Dallas Mavericks bring back?

Do the Dallas Mavericks re-sign Christian Wood this offseason?
Wood’s days in Dallas appear to be numbered. They traded a first-round pick for the 6’10 big man last summer as the Mavericks took the opportunity to add another dynamic scorer to their roster. Wood has produced strong numbers, but his defense has been problematic. The Mavs struggle to keep him on the floor because they are leaking so many points on the other end.
Since the trade for Kyrie Irving, C-Wood has averaged just 13.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd has inserted Maxi Kleber, JaVale McGee, and even Theo Pinson in as the first big man off the bench before Wood.
The 27-year-old is in the middle of his prime, and he wants to be an All-Star. Wood showed he could put up massive numbers in Houston, and he will likely be looking for a similar opportunity this summer in free agency.
Verdict: Burn
Keeping Christian Wood just does not make sense for the Dallas Mavericks. The team has plenty of offense with Luka Doncic and Kyrie running the show. They need a defensive-minded big man that is willing to do the dirty work on the glass and to protect the paint. C-Wood just does not fit that mold.
