Positive Dallas Mavericks must carry into playoffs: 5. Doe-Doe’s two-way play

Dorian Finney-Smith is going to be one of the keys in any postseason series for the Mavericks. They rely on the 6’7 forward to guard the opposing team’s best scorer on a nightly basis, and he is up for that challenge. Finney-Smith has received some All-Defensive team buzz given the Mavs’ improvement on that end of the floor and his position as the anchor of their defense.

Making life difficult on the opposition’s best perimeter scorer is important in the playoffs. If Doe-Doe can slow down Donovan Mitchell, Ja Morant, Klay Thompson, and Devin Booker, the Mavericks going to have a chance in any of those series. Finney-Smith will play a key defensive role against every opponent.

The Dallas Mavericks need him to knock down open shots on the other end of the floor too. Finney-Smith is doing more in the offense this season, but fans know Luka Doncic will take his game to another level in the postseason. If Doe-Doe is playing stout defense and sinking open looks, the Mavs are difficult to top, especially as defenses will sell out to stop Luka in the playoffs.

Dorian Finney-Smith played well each of the last two years in the postseason, and the Mavericks will need him to do it again in 2022 if they plan on making a deep run.
