Players Dallas Mavericks fans don't want on the court: 3. Derek Fisher
In December 2012, the Mavericks were shorthanded at point guard as Darren Collison was dealing with a finger injury. They decided to sign veteran Derek Fisher to play a key role while their starter recovered. Dallas needed a leader and locker room presence as Dirk Nowitzki missed the team's first 27 games in that season with a knee injury.
After just nine games and less than a month on the roster, Fisher hurt his knee and could not play for two weeks. Then, randomly, Fisher went to the front office asking to be released. He claimed that the injury and being apart from his family is what made him come to the decision. The Mavericks did what he asked, respected the veteran's wishes, and released the five-time NBA champion from his contract.
Flash forward two months and Fisher is announced to have signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The veteran left Dallas only to join a contender just before the playoffs. How can that not rub a fan the wrong way? Owner Mark Cuban had plenty to say about it at the time, and supporters have never forgiven Derek Fisher for what he did.
