No-brainer trade Dallas Mavericks should make before deadline: 1. Land Collins
The Hawks just underwent a front-office shakeup, and the new regime is looking to make moves before the deadline. They are aggressively shopping John Collins, but the 6’9 forward’s trade value has dipped significantly because of his down year. The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported (subscription required) that Atlanta is just asking for a quality role player for Collins in some cases.
Will the Hawks actually sell low on the 25-year-old? It seems like it may be the best move for both parties, and the Mavericks should be eager to acquire a young and talented stretch four. Dallas may not have the quality role player Atlanta is searching for, but the $78.5 million over the next three seasons left on Collins’ contract will deter some teams. Atlanta may have to settle for a package like this.
The Hawks need a floor spacer that will give them quality minutes on the wing. Tim Hardaway Jr. provides an immediate upgrade as Atlanta looks to jump into the top six and avoid the play-in tournament.
Expect John Collins to produce monster numbers in Dallas running pick and rolls with Luka Doncic. The 6’9 forward improves their rebounding and rim protection as he gives Dallas another player capable of scoring 20 points per game. Collins could reach new heights playing off number 77, and it would be a joy to watch and an excellent move if the Hawks get desperate before the deadline.
Will the Dallas Mavericks make a trade before the 2022 deadline on Feb. 9? Stay tuned to find out.
