No-brainer trade Dallas Mavericks should make before deadline: 4. Get 2 Knicks

The Knicks want to make the playoffs, but they are looking to trade away multiple pieces before the deadline. In addition to Reddish, New York would love to find a new home for Tom Thibodeau-favorite Derrick Rose. The veteran point guard has fallen out of the Knicks rotation, and they reportedly want to put him in a positive situation for the remainder of the season.

The Mavs desperately need another ball-handler, and they could fill two holes with this one no-brainer move.

Rose averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 assists in 24.5 minutes per game just last season. The veteran can still run an offense and get buckets, which is precisely what the Mavericks need coming off their bench as a third playmaker.

Losing Tim Hardaway Jr. would hurt, but the Mavericks would dump $45.8 million in salary over the next two years off their books. Rose has a $15.6 million team option for next season, and Reddish is a restricted free agent, so Dallas could have zero commitment after this year if things do not work out.

Having a bit of cap flexibility only improves the team’s chances of upgrading its roster. Swapping Tim Hardaway Jr. for Reddish and Rose may be a short-term step backward, but it could improve the Mavericks in the long run and give them a better mix this season.
