Thing Dallas Mavericks need around Luka Doncic to be title contenders: 3. Rebounding

Trading away Kristaps Porzingis left Dallas lacking size inside. Dwight Powell, Maxi Kleber, and Davis Bertans were the tallest players in the team’s postseason rotation at 6’10, but none of the three are known for their rebounding. The Mavs averaged 36.5 rebounds per game, which was the second-lowest among the 16 playoff teams, and they were outrebounded 811 to 657 over their 18 games.

Luka Doncic averaged 9.8 rebounds per game in the postseason, but Dorian Finney-Smith finished second at 5.5. Maxi Kleber led the Mavericks' big men as he pulled down just 4.6 boards each night.

This is an area Dallas must address if they want to win a championship. They cannot afford to be outrebounded in every playoff series because those extra possessions will come back to bite them.

It is a delicate balance here too. The Mavs want a stretch big man spacing the floor, but that hurts their ability to rebound. Do they look to add a rebounding force like Rudy Gobert or are the Mavericks better off with a center that can grab six or seven rebounds per game and shoot threes? The front office will have to make that decision this summer.
