Thing Dallas Mavericks need around Luka Doncic to be title contenders: 4. 3-and-D wing

Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock averaged over 38 minutes per game and traveled more than 49.5 miles while on the court in the playoffs. The duo was tasked with guarding the opposition's top scorers every night, and they did an outstanding job. They were so good that head coach Jason Kidd was reluctant to rest them.

The Mavs need another 3-and-D wing that can handle some of those minutes. His playing time could increase when someone is struggling like in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals when Bullock missed all ten of his field goal attempts.

Tim Hardaway Jr. missed the Mavs playoff run after breaking his foot in January. He is working his way back and should be fully healthy for training camp. THJ provides Dallas with another capable scorer and shot-maker, but can he hold his own defensively enough to fill this role? If not, the Mavericks should look to trade him this summer as they search for another stout perimeter defender.

Quality 3-and-D wings are difficult to come by as every team in the league is searching for multiple options. Acquiring this piece will likely have to come via trade, but expect the Mavericks to have to pay a premium to secure another 3-and-D wing.
