Last night, the Dallas Mavericks fell to the Utah Jazz 127-90 on the road.

The good news of the night is that Kyrie Irving returned from injury after missing almost a month with a heel contusion that he suffered after Dwight Powell fell onto his leg against the Portland Trail Blazers.

With all of that being said, the biggest news of the long weekend surrounding the Mavs was that they have shown interest in trading for Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam.

NBA Insider reveals position that Dallas Mavericks want to upgrade via trade

Siakam is someone Dallas was interested in over the summer, and now it seems that they could revisit those trade talks sometime soon. Although the report that Dallas has shown interest in trading Siakam is exciting for fans, one NBA Insider's intel may say to pump the brakes on this talk.

Marc Stein said that "one source over the weekend described their interest [in trading for Siakam] to me as overstated," (subscription required). Stein also reported that "the Mavericks are indeed hoping to upgrade at the four spot, I’m told, but my sense is Siakam is not atop their wish list," (subscription required).

This shows that although Dallas may not be pursuing Siakam as hard as some people may have thought, they do want to upgrade at the power forward spot. New offseason addition Grant Williams has already been moved to the bench, and it seems like Dallas will look to upgrade in this area at the trade deadline.

Although no names have been mentioned regarding Dallas' trade targets, it is clear that they want to upgrade their frontcourt next to Dereck Lively II. Someone like Siakam would be an awesome addition and fit, but any upgrade at this position could thrust the Mavs into NBA Finals contention.

For all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks this season, stay tuned.
