Goal for Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic this season: 3. Win MVP
Luka was the favorite to win MVP entering last season, but a slow start coupled with the team having injuries and COVID-issues effectively eliminated the 22-year-old from contention. He played incredibly down the stretch to vault into sixth in the final voting, but he ruined his chances of taking home the award in the early going.
Doncic will be looking to win the highest individual honor in the NBA this season, but it will not be his sole focus. New head coach Jason Kidd is going to empower the Mavs superstar, including asking him to produce a nightly triple-double. Dallas needs Luka’s ball-handling and playmaking ability, so expect him to put up historic numbers and break records regularly this season.
The Mavericks need to get off to a better start and finish in the top four in the Western Conference for Doncic to have a shot at MVP. The 22-year-old must lead his team up the standings as he improves his numbers. Luka will try to set plenty of career-highs this season, including increasing his scoring to around 30 points per game.
Will it be enough to land Luka Doncic his first NBA MVP honors? Winning the award and making his third straight first-team All-NBA should be goals for the 2021-2022 season.
