Through 10 games, the Dallas Mavericks are in a position that not many people expected.

Most national media members doubted their talent heading into the season, but they continue to prove night in and night out that they are a contender in the Western Conference.

Dallas defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 136-124 on Sunday night, improving to 8-2 and staying in second place in the Western Conference.

Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has much needed game in win over Pelicans

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving continue to dominate offensively, but Irving truly didn't have this dominant of a game until tonight.

Irving finished with 35 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and one block.

After having a stretch of games in which Irving was good but not great offensively (until Friday night's win over the Clippers), Irving looked like himself in Monday's win.

He was dialed in from distance as he went 7-10 from downtown and he was hitting difficult shots off the dribble and looked comfortable off the catch as well. Irving's ability to hit tough shots at a high clip isn't something that you see often, but both of Dallas' superstars have this down.

Irving was also effective as a facilitator as he showcased his elite decision-making in transition and threw multiple perfect lob passes to Josh Green and Dwight Powell in the first half.

The Mavericks' dynamic duo of Luka and Kyrie is starting to truly play together, and Dallas will be tough to beat if this duo can play like this consistently.

Dallas' next game is on Tuesday night against the Pelicans. This game is Dallas' third In-Season Tournament game of the season, and sweeping the Pelicans on the road would be massive for the tournament standings.

For all the latest on Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks this season, stay tuned.
