5 teams that will be chasing Mavericks star Kyrie Irving in free agency

4. LA Clippers
The Clippers' biggest weakness remains at the point guard position, which is why they were willing to sign Russell Westbrook in the buyout market and immediately insert him into their starting five. Westbrook will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and LA will be searching for a game-changing point guard that can set the table for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
Irving will be the best point guard available this summer, and the Clippers could look to pull off a sign-and-trade with Dallas. Would the Mavs be willing to trade him to one of their rivals? Could LA offer enough to make the deal worth it?
The Clippers are loaded with wings, and the Mavericks desperately need to improve their depth in that area. They could make a trade this summer, even if Kyrie is not involved, with Dallas sending their first round to a third team, so LA can get a point guard, and the Mavs can acquire a wing from the Clippers.
Clips owner Steve Balmer is never afraid to spend, so they could get creative to try to get Kyrie to Los Angeles. Irving is more likely to choose the Suns than the Clippers, but neither team is in the driver’s seat at this point. Much can change before this summer, and it appears both LA teams are in the running for Kyrie Irving.
