Dallas Mavericks goal for the 2022-23 season: 4. Improve roster

The Mavs have the most difficult piece to acquire in Luka Doncic. He may already be the best player in the NBA, but if not, he is one of the guys. The 23-year-old is an elite talent that gives his team a chance to win every game. Dallas just needs to put the right pieces around him to be a title contender.

Fans saw it just last season. Yes, they lost to the Warriors in the conference finals, but the Mavericks could compete with any team. They did not have a true second star. Dallas played together and bought into their roles, which provided results.

General manager Nico Harrison and the front office should always be looking to improve their roster around Luka Doncic. The additions to Christian Wood and JaVale McGee give the Mavs more talent and depth than last season, and they can still upgrade their roster until February’s deadline.

Harrison’s early track record on trades is strong, but can he pull off another key move this season? The Dallas Mavericks should make it a goal to further improve their roster around number 77 before the playoffs come, but doing so is always easier said than done.
