Dallas Mavericks dream 2022 trade deadline: 1. Sign Goran Dragic after buyout

The Mavs' dream scenario also involves them signing veteran point guard Goran Dragic after he is bought out by the Toronto Raptors. The 35-year-old wants to play with his countryman Luka Doncic, and Dallas is rumored to be in the lead for his services if he gets waived.

Dragic has played in just five games this season. The Heat picked up his $19.4 million option before dealing him to Toronto in the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade. He never found a home with the Raptors, but the team continues to explore deals as the trade deadline approaches.

If Toronto cannot strike a trade before Feb. 10, they will buy Dragic out as he is in the final year of his contract and wants to play for a contender. There will be plenty of competition for his services, but Luka helps Dallas land the veteran.

Goran Dragic gives the Dallas Mavericks another creator and scorer with playoff experience. He helped the Miami Heat reach the NBA Finals in 2020. He gives Dallas a veteran presence and some added leadership as they look to make a playoff run.
